The Computational Journalism and Artificial Intelligence course aims to train information professionals capable of operating effectively in the digital age, leveraging the latest technological innovations at every stage of journalistic work.<\/p>\n

Students will acquire advanced skills ranging from data collection to statistical analysis and the effective communication of complex data.<\/p>\n

The program initially focuses on data sources and data collection techniques, covering both traditional methods, such as accessing public databases, and more innovative approaches, such as data scraping and the application of OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) methodologies for online research (Getting Data). These skills will then be integrated with a strong foundation in data analysis, including Statistics, Network Analysis, and Machine Learning tools for interpreting collected information (Understanding Data). Finally, students will be introduced to Data Visualization techniques (Delivering Data).<\/p>\n

Special attention will be given to the application of Artificial Intelligence in journalism. Students will explore AI\u2019s potential in writing, data analysis, and multimedia production, learning prompt engineering techniques to interact effectively with AI systems. The course will also cover cutting-edge multimedia production, introducing techniques for creating deepfake videos and audio, always with a critical perspective on the ethical implications and responsible use of these technologies in journalism.<\/p>\n

The ultimate goal is to prepare participants to work competently and consciously in a data-driven journalism environment increasingly influenced by Artificial Intelligence. The course aims to provide not only the necessary technical skills but also a critical understanding of the potential and risks associated with AI and algorithmic use in journalism.<\/p>\n

Tools used: Excel Advanced, Python Colab, ChatGPT, OSINT, LLM, Gemini, Apify.<\/p>\n

The employability objectives of the Course in Computational Journalism and Artificial Intelligence<\/em> aim to train professionals who are in high demand, both nationally and internationally. This training integrates advanced skills in data and artificial intelligence with journalistic practices, responding to the growing demand of modern newsrooms for journalists capable of handling cutting-edge technologies, for press and communications managers, and for public relations consultants.<\/p>\n

The course adopts a practical and laboratory approach, preparing students to independently use the technologies learnt and work on real projects, making the skills acquired immediately spendable. Moreover, students have the opportunity to build a network of professional contacts thanks to the long experience of the Luiss Master’s in Journalism, known for the high employability of its graduates.<\/p>\n

The course aspires to become a reference point in Italy for technological innovation applied to journalism.<\/p>\n

Intended Learning Outcomes – ILOs
\nAdvanced technological skills: Students will be able to use advanced data analysis, machine learning, data scraping and OSINT technologies to acquire, analyse and communicate journalistic information.
\nPractical application in journalism: Students will be able to apply the acquired skills in real projects, making their knowledge immediately expendable in the field of digital journalism.
\nUnderstanding the impact of AI: Students will be able to understand the impact of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence and automation, on the production and dissemination of information in contemporary journalism.
\nEthical use of AI: Students will be able to ethically use artificial intelligence technologies, such as prompt engineering and deepfake production, in the context of journalism.<\/p>\n
