She is a professor, writer, speaker and digital trainer. Currently She teaches journalism with an emphasis on digital platforms at Long Island University, Brooklyn, She writes for numerous publication (both digital and print), and consult with businesses, nonprofits, and individuals about digital branding and amplification. <\/p>\n

She has been a guest on numerous television networks including MSNBC, WNBC and NY1 and She has been interviewed for NPR\u2019s All Things Considered and other radio programs.<\/p>\n

EXPERIENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n

LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY 2015 \u2013 Present Professor, Department of Journalism \u201cSocial Media Theory and Practice\u201d covers all aspects of the practice of social journalism, including blogging and important social media platforms. Students in \u201cBlogging and Magazine Writing\u201d learn the principles of magazine reporting and practice strong story telling and experiment with finding their voice in their blogs. <\/p>\n

SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGIST, TRAINER AND SPEAKER 2011 \u2013 Present Advise and consult with individuals, companies, and nonprofits to craft their social media presence. Create strategies to improve ROI and brand-awareness through social media. Clients have included: Healthier NYC (City of New York Department of Health), Committee of 100, Columbia University Medical College, Brick Underground Media, The Daily Forward, Bergen County Newspapers, Society of American Travel Writers, Girl Scouts of America, Carnegie Foundation, Pulitzer Prizes, Nabu.Org, The Wrap, United Nations Economic and Social Council. In addition, I have guest-lectured on social media, journalism and other communications topics at NYU School of Journalism, Columbia University School of Journalism, and IMT Institute for Advanced Studies, Lucca, Italy. <\/p>\n

WRITER AND EDITOR, FREELANCE 1986 \u2013 Present Published hundreds of articles focused on health, women\u2019s issues, education, parenting, psychology, work, relationships, technology, and travel in major media outlets including: The New York Times, Self Magazine, Ladies\u2019 Home Journal, Parents, The New York Times Magazine, New York Magazine, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Huffington Post, Forbes. \u2022 Edited online content for Contently.com, the anti-content farm company. \u2022 Edited several books for Hugh Lauter Levin Associates. \u2022 Wrote and re-designed Websites for Sesame Street Parents, various Scholastic Inc. magazines, ModernBride.com, and several non-profit organizations. \u2022 Maintain an active blog and a Website centered on health, generational and family issues: http:\/\/generationbsquared.com. \u2022 Contributing Writer for Next Avenue, a website produced by PBS Twin Cities Television . <\/p>\n

CONFERENCE COORDINATOR 2011 \u2013 Present Working with Sree Sreenivasan, former Chief Digital Officer at Columbia University, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and New York City, I produce \u201cSocial Media Weekend.\u201d The two-day event, held first at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and then the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, features prominent journalists and business leaders who address topics important to the current media landscape. <\/p>\n

NYU SCHOOL OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES 2015 \u2013 2018 Adjunct Professor, Master of Science in Professional Writing Program \u201cWriting for Digital Media,\u201d covered the basics of writing styles on the internet. Students learned techniques that work for writing for news, political, science, business-oriented and other sites. This course became the model for covering internet writing when the program was revamped in 2018. <\/p>\n

COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2011 \u2013 2015 Social Media Adjunct, Continuing Education, School of Journalism The course covered all aspects of social media and social analytics. The students were public relations professionals, nonprofit and foundation leaders, small business owners, and, of course, journalists. <\/p>\n

CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK 2008 \u2013 2010 Office of Academic Affairs, Project Coordinator Developed research project concerning student advisement in the CUNY colleges. \u2022 Led re-design project for the OUE website, providing content and using communications and editing expertise. \u2022 Oversaw the process for granting degree waivers and equivalencies for professors and teaching staff at the various CUNY schools. \u2022 Redesigned protocols, forms and instructions to the colleges to streamline the waiver and equivalency process. \u2022 Presented research at CUNY Gen Ed Conferences. \u2022 Served as a liaison to the 92nd Street Y in their outreach program to CUNY students.
CENTER FOR WORK-LIFE POLICY 2006 \u2013 2008 Vice President and Senior Fellow Managed research projects that examined ways to design, promote, and implement workplace policies to increase productivity and enhance personal\/family well being. Work focused on women, minorities and global workers and was published by this non-profit think tank and the Harvard Business Review.
SCHOLASTIC, INC 1998 \u2013 2002 Editor, Parent and Child Magazine Led redesign and re-launch of magazine. \u2022 Supervised all editorial content, planned issues and conceived articles, edited features and columns and wrote display and other copy. \u2022 Revamped the Website by creating and editing new online content. \u2022 Worked on new-magazine development and custom-publishing projects. \u2022 Represented Scholastic at professional conferences and in television and radio appearances. \u2022 Served as consulting editor on Scholastic Early Childhood Today.
SESAME WORKSHOP 1996 \u2013 1998 Senior Editor Assigned and edited feature articles and columns on all aspects of parenting. \u2022 Oversaw reviews section, which covered books, music, videos, technology, and toys. \u2022 Served as a liaison between the magazine and the Children\u2019s Television Workshop (now Sesame Workshop) Website and contributed to the redesign of the Sesame Street Parents site. \u2022 Acted as Sesame Street Parents spokesperson on monthly Food Network segment, \u201cCooking Up Fun.\u201d
QUEENS COLLEGE 1980 \u2013 1985 Assistant Professor Designed and taught courses in composition, creative writing, and English and world literature. \u2022 Contributed to several essay anthologies and grammar textbooks. <\/p>\n
