Born in Ravenna, he studied Anglo-American literature at the University of Bologna with Carlo Izzo. Editor of the experimental daily Il Foglio by Gorrieri and Pedrazzi in Bologna, he was a union columnist and editor-in-chief of Il Manifesto, where he founded, with Piergiorgio Maoloni, the Sunday supplements. After directing the cultural magazines of the Giunti group with Roman Vlad and Jacques Le Goff, he was editor-in-chief of Nuova Ecologia, directed by Paolo Gentiloni and co-author of Milano Italia, a talk show on Angelo Guglielmi’s Third Rai Network, hosted by Gianni Riotta. Co-director of L’Unione Sarda, he then worked with Eugenio Scalfari, Ezio Mauro and Mario Calabresi as political editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper La Repubblica. Editorialist for Il Sole 24 Ore, he now directs the magazines linked to the Buon Vivere festival and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Luiss Master in Journalism and Communication where he coordinates the reporting and writing programs.
