Journalist, author and television presenter.

During his university years he began writing for the daily newspaper Avvenire, then, after graduating in law from Sapienza in 1995, he collaborated with the television agency Rete News in Montecitorio. In 1996 he passed the selection for the School of Radio and Television Journalism in Perugia.

His television career began in 1998 at the ANSA Agency in the editorial office of Bloomberg TV. He became a professional journalist in January 1999. His first contract at Rai was at Giornale Radio, where he followed the main events of Italian politics and institutional summits and became a parliamentary journalist ASP.

In 2007 Gianni Riotta called him to TG1. Here he was appointed head of the domestic affairs editorial team. From 2013 to 2019 he presented the 8:00 pm edition.

In 2012 he was part of the cast of Unomattina Estate. The following year he became the presenter of Speciale Tg1 in diretta.

She presented the 2015 edition of the Marco Luchetta Journalism Award and I nostri angeli from Trieste. Also on Rai 1, he presented the program Nostra madre Terra from Assisi from 2015 to 2017 and since 2016 he has presented the Biagio Agnes Journalism Award from Sorrento, first with Francesca Fialdini and then with Mara Venier.

On the same network he also presented Tg1 Referendum, six episodes in access prime time with a comparison between various political exponents on the 2016 constitutional referendum.

He later became the author and presenter of Sono innocente, a docufiction that tells the stories of people unjustly arrested, broadcast on Rai 3, in prime time, from 7 January 2017. The program will also be renewed for a second season, to be broadcast in 2018.

During the months of February and March 2019, he was called back to Rai 3 to present a late entertainment show: Photoshow. He also participated in several episodes of the fourteenth edition of Ballando con le stelle on Rai 1, as a commentator, alternating with other colleagues.

In the 2019-2020 season, he presented the afternoon news program on Rai 1, La vita in diretta, paired with Lorella Cuccarini.

Since September 2020, Matano has continued to present La vita in diretta, this time alone and as chief author. He is also part of the cast of the fifteenth edition of the show Ballando con le stelle, as a commentator.
