He is a researcher at LUISS Guido Carli. Previously Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute and Visiting Research Fellow at the University of California, Irvine, he is a member of the ITANES (Italian National Election Studies) research group and founding member of the CISE (Centro Italiano Studi Elettorali), of which he is the current coordinator; participates in EUDO (European Union Democracy Observatory) and the international research project “The True European Voter”.
He taught at the Universities of Florence and Siena.
His main research interests: ecological inference and the study of electoral flows; the Italian political transition, through the analysis of aggregate election data; the spatial and non-spatial models of voting behaviour and party competition; the logical-quantitative approach to the analysis of social phenomena. Author of the volumes Elettori in movimento (Polistampa, 2008), Competizione e spazio politico (Il Mulino, 2011), and curator of the volume La politica cambia, i valori rimangono?
