The Role

The Financial Times is looking for an office manager and research assistant for its Rome bureau to support its’ coverage of Italy. This is a multi-faceted role: it combines the administrative responsibilities needed to keep the bureau running smoothly with research, fact-checking, reporting and other assistance in producing news and features about Italy. There are likely to be opportunities for domestic travel.

 Key responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth functioning of the bureau. This requires administrative tasks such as maintaining office accounts, paying bills, communicating with service providers and official agencies, and liaising with the managing editor’s offices on costs, expenses and any issues pertaining to operations of the office.
  • Assist correspondents with news-gathering. This includes monitoring news on TV and newspapers; research and fact-checking; identification of potential interviewees and initial outreach, interviewing, assisting with travel planning and logistics, and potentially accompanying the correspondent on reporting trips.
  • The successful candidate is likely to have other opportunities to assist in story-writing, such as conducting interviews, contributing to the FT live blog, and filling in for the correspondent during absences.

 

Who are we looking for?

This role would suit an energetic, detail-oriented problem-solver with a keen interest in news and current affairs, coupled with either some proven work experience or training in journalism. Fluency or excellent knowledge of both Italian and English are required as is the right to live and work in the EU.
